Biography

Masazuka-kai was originally established in 1980 by the late Grand Master Ms. Sato Masazuka as the Sato Masazuka-kai.  Ms. Sato taught over 100 students and among them 20 students obtained teaching credential through very strict exams held at Seiha School in Japan.  Ms. Sato was awarded as the Bunka (Arts) Hall of Fame by Japanese American Association of Northern California (Hokka Nichi Bei Kai) in 2011 for her long-time dedication to koto music.  Ms. Sato however succumbed to cancer in 2015.  Masazuka-kai was reorganized among her students after her abrupt departure and this year it was recognized as a 501(c )(3) non-profit organization in CA.

It holds the New Year Koto/Sangen recital annually and participates to the Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival held in San Francisco, CA, every year.  Pictures were taken at the recent Cherry Blossom Festivals.
