Biography
During her college days she studied abroad in America and it was at this time that she began to strongly desire to express herself as a Japanese person. After returning home, she began tutelage under Sasaki Mitsuyoshi, who taught several professional players, including Hiromitsu Agatsuma, Takemi Hirohara, Chie Hanawa.
Thereafter, she devoted herself as a member of Sasaki’s ”Geino-shudan Gengoro” entertainment group and performed numerous time at Japan’s annual Tsugaru Shamisen National Competition. Then with Sasaki Mitsuyoshi as the leader, she was a member of the performance group ”Otafuku” along with Keisuke Doi (shakuhachi), Hiroki Miki (wadaiko), Ryo Fukuda (bass), Mika Suzuki (keyboard). They performed numerous times throughout Japan, America, Germany, Portugal, Italy, Thailand, and Australia.
She is currently based in Los Angeles and teaches tsugaru shamisen as part of Sasaki Mitsuru Sangenkai in Gardena. In 2013, she was certified as a master of tsugaru shamisen by the Alliance for California Traditional Arts.
